Arts and Crafts

Arts and Crafts; Clay Work

Sist oppdatert 27.05.2010 av Birgit Andrine Apenes Solem

Courses in Arts and Crafts are offered in a context of art and culture. The courses, to a great extent, involve different forms of artistic expression and communication enabling the student to develop a deeper understanding of herself and the field of art. The students are expected to develop art projects from an idea to an actual art expression using materials. Practical work is at the center in these studies.

A 10 ECTS module in Clay Work can be taught in English if there is sufficient demand.

About the Module

At present, we are able to offer a 10 ECTS course in clay work in English. For students proficient in Norwegian language we can also offer  modules in many other subjects as well, such as achitecture and design/clay work (Fall), picture and photo (Spring), Arts and Crafts/wood and textile (Spring) and clay work (Spring). Please, take contact with us with your specific wishes to see if we can help you.

Generally speaking, the modules in Arts and Crafts have the following aims:

- Students should acquire knowledge of the Norwegian and European culture, art and form and be able to identify and recognize the central elements and trends in the history of Norwegian art.

- Students are expected to acquire knowledge about the different methods and learning processes related to aesthetical and practical creative activity.

- Students should be able to use varied materials, tools and techniques in their creative work related to two- or three- dimensional forms of expression.

- Students should be able to analyse and acquire knowledge of a specific field of arts and crafts; work systematically with a material of choice, and be able choose suitable methods.

- Students should be able to document their knowledge, skills and attitudes within a specific field through planning, executing and evaluating their own artistic expression. The documentation and presentation should be presented in a portfolio format, or by oral or digital presentation.
