Having successfully completed this course, the students should be able to:
• Articulate and present financial statements and to make decisions based on them.
• Determine the cost of maritime products using different costing methods.
• Make profitable and appropriate investments decisions in the maritime industry.
Content / Outline Syllabus
This course consists of two sections, namely Business Analysis and Financial Analysis. The aforementioned section weighs two-third of the overall grade, whereas the latter section covers one-third of the overall grade.
Business Analysis (Bedriftsøkonomi analyse)
• Accumulating and assigning cost to goods and services.
• Using cost in decision-making.
• Making capital investment decisions.
Financial Analysis (Regnskapsanalyse)
• Preparation and presentation of financial statements.
• Cash Flow Statement for decision making.
• Accounting treatments for investments in other entities.
Learning activities / Work Methods / Teaching
• Interaction through ordinary class teaching.
• Assignments and group works.
• Guest lectures and seminars.
Assessment /Method(s)
• One group assignment that deals with practical issues in the maritime industry and this assignment counts 40% of the overall grade. In addition to the a fore mentioned assignment, two more compulsory assignments need to be submitted, but they have no impact on the overall grade.
• A six hour school examination at the end of the semester that counts 60% of the overall grade.
