Modern Theater

In this 10 ECTS module the students will familiarize themselves with the different types of theater, art forms and performances central to the modern theatre. The students, in a team environment, will be expected to produce a theatre performance for the public (a school or a kintergarden). The module focuses on cross-cultural issues and utilizes different types of artistic expression as well. The aim is to research and develop theater's relationship with the body, language, space, time and dialogue.
As a general rule we do not offer these modules in English, but in some cases a 10 ECTS module can be taught in English if there is sufficient demand.

About the Course
Contents: Module 5: Modern Theater
- Introduction to modern theater
- Introduction to different approaches, to experimenting and researching theater's and art's relationship to time, space, language, the body and texts.
- Relationships between non-verbal and verbal communication, and dramatic dialogue and physical action/movement in theatre.
- Knowledge of, and experience with, theater forms functioning in a multicultural and multi-lingual landscape.
- Production and performance of a modern theater piece.
- Knowledge of different types of "playgrounds" both inside and outside.
Target Groups
Preschool teacher students, teacher students, other students with interest in theater. Foreign and Norwegian students who have finished a minimum of one year of studies from university or university college (60 ECTS) in their home countries. A certain proficiency in English is required in order to benefit from the course.
