Most of the Norwegians speak English quite well. But to get the most out of your stay with us it might be a good idea to learn some basic words to start with.
Some Useful Words to Know in Norwegian:
Abbreviations on Campus
You will come across many abbreviations and Norwegian names at the school. Here are some:
HVE – Høgskolen i Vestfold – Vestfold University College (VUC)
HE – Fakultet for helsevitenskap – Faculty of Health Sciences
HUT – Fakultet for Humaniora og utdanningsvitenskap – Faculty of Humanities and Education
TEKMAR - Fakultet for teknologi og maritime fag – Faculty of Technology and Maritime Sciences
ØS – Fakultet for økonomi og samfunnsvitenskap – Faculty of Business and Social Sciences
SIV – Samskipnaden i Vestfold – Student Welfare Organisation in Vestfold (SIV is also an abbreviation for the county’s central hospital) VS – Vestfold Studentsamfunn – The Student Society

Exam Locations Outside Campus
11.09.2009As examinations require a flat room (not an auditorium), some of our exams are scheduled outside the campus at times. You will find information and maps about these locations here.

Student ID Card
23.03.2009All students should have a student ID card. Student ID cards are issued on the first day of the semester. You must pay the semester fee and register for the semester. Note: all exchange students are exempt from paying the semester fee, but they must be registered.

Norwegian Social Security Number
23.03.2009If you are staying more than six months in Norway you need to apply for a Norwegian social security number.

Health, Medical Aid and Insurance
