The PhD Programme at HiVe

HiVe -Vestfold University College offers a structured PhD Programme in Applied Micro- and Nano systems. The PhD Programme has a normal duration of three years, in which the candidate will attend courses, receive supervision and conduct research. In order to attend the programme, you must have obtained a Master degree, or equivalent, within a relevant field of study.

Depending on the research project, you may spread the workload related to the PhD over four years, with 75% of the time spent on R&D and 25% on other tasks, e.g. teaching or work on relevant research projects.

The PhD Programme consists in two parts:

Coursework, at PhD level, of at least 30 ECTS credits (studiepoeng)
a thesis and dissertation work

Work on the PhD thesis is carried out under individual academic supervision. All candidates shall normally have two supervisors. As an accepted PhD candidate, you will either be employed at HiVe or affiliated with another university college or university. As a PhD candidate you will receive a salary during the programme – or you may be remunerated from other sources.

The organised research training will provide a basis for a future position in business and industry, administration, higher education and R&D. You are expected to publish findings from your research work at renowned conferences and in international refereed scholarly journals.

Before you apply to enrol in the PhD programme at HiVe, funding for the study period must be secured. You may either apply to:
