The course Outdoor Education and experiential learning takes place in the winter/spring semester and gives a total of 30 ECTS credits. The course consists of modules in the Nordic winter, local history and culture, and methods of experiential learning. All lessons, trips and excursions are compulsary.
Norwegian students may select this course as an elective subject in their general teacher education or in their preschool teacher education, but the course is also interesting for a wide range of bachelor degrees.
Applications for admission to the programme must be delivered through Web Application (Søknadsweb)
The study is open for preschool teacher students, teacher students, other students with interest in Norwegian culture and nature and experience- based learning.
For norwegian students the admission requirement is Norwegian Higher Education Qualification (GSK).
For foreign students we require that they have finished a minimum of one year of studies from university or university college (60 ECTS) in their home countries.
A certain proficiency in English is required in order to benefit from the course. The students will need clothing for all weather conditions as we are outdoors much of the time.
The course focuses on Norwegian outdoor culture and practical skills of outdoor life; outdoor life in a variety of environments in the local area of Vestfold and it’s surroundings; the coastline, the forests and the lakes; activities connected to our local history, craftsmanship and learn methods of experiential based learning; and basic Nordic skiing traditions. – All in the perspective of sustainable development and ecophilosophy.
