Transportation and Discounts

Sist oppdatert 24.05.2012 av Maija Heinilä

As a student with a valid ID-card you can get many discounts.

Buses

Route 01 and 02 from Horten , Åsgårdstrand and Tønsberg to Campus Bakkenteigen.
Route 113 from Tønsberg to the Eik campus.

Bus Card

There is a small fee for the electronic card. This card can be bought at Narvesen kiosk at Sjøsiden Shopping Center in Horten or at Farmandstredet Shopping Center in Tønsberg. The card is valid on all local buses in Vestfold. You can buy a refill on the bus every month.
Check bus schedules and fees here: www.vkt.no

Lavprisekspressen.no is a very cheap bus company. They have bus routes from Oslo – Bergen – Oslo and Oslo – Trondheim – Oslo. You can get tickets as low as 49.-kr depending on how early you order and if there are seats left. You can only order and buy tickets on the web. There is one little downside to it, the web pages are in Norwegian and only in Norwegian. So, if you are interested please ask a your buddy to translate for you.

Bicycles

New bicycles cost from NOK 2000,- . Second-hand ones can be bought at flea markets, private garage sales and at auctions at Police stations. NOTE: Vestfold University College encourages everyone to bicycle as much as possible and that is why the college has purchased many bikes the international students can rent for NOK 150 for a month (helmet incl.). Register yourselves at the library and get a bike for a small fee!

Travel Discounts

In most cases students are entitled to reduced fairs on domestic flights with airlines, boats, ferries and the Norwegian State Railway (NSB), provided they have a valid Student Identity Card and can produce, a Letter of Admission from the university/college. For discounts on international flights, special discount cards should be obtained from Kilroy Travels.
KILROY Travels:

  • Address: Nedre Slottsgate 23, 1057 Oslo
  • Phone: +47 815 59633 (Mon-Fri 08-18)

Other Discounts

Students get discounts at most concerts, theatres and museums and galleries in Norway. Remember that you must show your student card to get your discount. Ask the Student Society about the best deals.
