Norwegian Social Security Number

Sist oppdatert 25.11.2011 av Maija Heinilä

If you are staying more than six months in Norway you need to apply for a Norwegian social security number.

After registration at the Police station, students residing in Norway for six months or more must apply for a Norwegian social security number. This is issued by the National Population Register. You must have this number in order to get a bank account in Norway.

Erasmus/ISEP exchange students staying less than 6 months in Norway do not have to apply for Social security number at the National Population Register.

The street addresses of the Population Registers in Horten and Tønsberg are:

Tønsberg: Anton Jensensvei 12

Horten: the Town Hall (Rådhuset).

NOTE: you need to inform mrs. Kristin Granerød about your new  number when you receive it. This is because the programs on Campus need to be updated with this information. Take an ID with you when you visit her office on Campus.
